Two Obituaries From Ashton Funeral Rites Held For Mrs Johnson And Miss Brownell

Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson of Ashton died Saturday at age 43 8 2 and her funeral was held Sunday at the Presbyterian church with Rev. R F Cressy presiding. Interment followed in Ashton Cemetery and the service drew a large crowd. Ruth Brownell a former Ashton resident died November 12 1905 at Roger Park hospital after an operation. She had taught near town and worked in Chicago as a bookkeeper. She was remembered as bright and Christian and sympathy is offered to her mother and siblings.

Farmers Institute To Award Prizes At Amboy Meeting

The Lee county Farmers Institute announces a prize giving during the Amboy gathering on December 19 and 20. A local committee has been named to organize events and oversee arrangements for the two day program.

Funds moved between committees at city Fire Co meeting

At a meeting of the Fire Co and Street and Alley committee Booth Hutchinson and Meister oversaw the transfer of 160 dollars from the Fire Committee treasury to the Street and Alley committee. Hutchinson will travel to Chicago to research pipe prices and materials.

Examination for West Point nominees in Freeport

An 1906 examination in Freeport on January 30 and 31 will nominate one principal and two alternates for the U S Military Academy at West Point. Applicants aged 17 to 22 must meet height weight requirements, be unmarried, pass a rigid exam in reading, writing, arithmetic, history and geography, and undergo a physical exam.
