City Council Accepts C and NW Fire Protection Offer
The regular monthly meeting saw the council approve the Chicago and Northwestern Railway fire protection proposal. A four and a half foot underground pipe would run 350 feet from the high pressure tank to a hydrant by the north street alley. The Fire Co. offered to cover $160 in treasury and 450 feet of hose, aiming to extend reach to Presbyterians, United Evangelicals, and Knapp’s livery barn. Submerged land owners gain hunting and fishing rights ruling
The Illinois supreme court ruled that owners of submerged land, even where the surface is navigable, hold the sole right to hunt and fish on that water. In Schulz v Warren, Schulz owns 2,800 acres of submerged Mason county land and won an injunction to protect his property.
