Ashton Township Reads Change in Highway Governance
A special election is set for December 2 in Ashton township Lee County to abolish the Three Highway Commissioner system and elect a Single Highway Commissioner under the Tice law. The measure, already approved in Ashton by 126 to 35, follows a petition signed by local voters and filed with Town Clerk Geo B Stephan.

Dixon native James H Thompson a former Lee county clerk has been appointed acting superintendent of the National cemetery at Jefferson City Missouri and will soon become its full superintendent. He passed a Fort Sheridan exam and completed probation at Jefferson Barracks before taking the Jefferson City post. Mrs Thompson accompanied him to join in the new assignment.

Willie Hart Arm Amputated After Engine Fly-Wheel Accident
Willie Hart twelve son of Mr and Mrs Henry Hart of seven miles south of the city had his right arm amputated at Amboy hospital Monday after his mittened wet hand was drawn into a gasoline engine fly wheel while helping with the family washing at home. He was taken to Amboy hospital where the arm was amputated near the shoulder. The family and friends in the city express deep regret over the accident.

Gas Plant Upgrades With Electric Motor Purchase
At a city council meeting a ten horsepower electric motor was bought to operate the air compressor at the gas plant replacing a worn five horsepower gasoline engine. The switch aims to cut costs and allow a thorough overhaul of the old engine when wired for electricity. A daily saving is expected and the gasoline engine will remain as emergency backup.

Julia A. Burkhart nee Zeis born May 31 1849 Wheeling West Virginia died November 8 1913 in DeKalb Illinois aged 64 years 5 months 3 days. Survived by ten children six daughters and four sons one great grandchild plus siblings Otto Zeis Charles Zeis and Theodore Zeis.
