Citizens Meet to Honor Boys of 61 and ’98

A Memorial Day service in the Methodist Church honored Civil War veterans and living soldiers with Rev J R Hamilton delivering an address. The event included Lafayette Band music, prayers, and reflections on sacrifice, memory, and the nation’s history, noting the day’s somber, funeral tone.

Mrs. Fannie H. Anthony Dies After Long Illness

Mrs. Fannie H. Anthony wife of Rev C W Anthony died May 12 at 3 40 p m at 260 Downer Place after a long illness from paralysis. She was born November 16 1854 in Berkshire later living in Racine and Aurora Illinois. She married Rev C W Anthony in 1877 and had a daughter Maude. Survived by her husband and one brother H N Jones of Hollywood California. Funeral at 2 30 p m Thursday May 17 at the family home.

Farmers Must Display Signals On Rural Mail Boxes

Postmaster reports an order from the Fourth Assistant Postmaster General mandating signals on rural mail boxes starting July 1, 1906. Carriers will not inspect boxes without obvious signals showing mail for collection. Patrons with unsignaled boxes may add a simple device. carriers will lower signals when no mail is left and display them when delivering mail. Carriers to inform patrons of routes and ensure full compliance by the effective date.

Serious Runaway Ends in Narrow Escape at Town Well

Tuesday morning Albert Chambers and his broncho team nearly caused a fatal runaway at the town well. He loosened a tug while watering the team and the buggy freed itself. The horses bolted down Front Street, one catching its bridle on the pump and tearing it off. Chambers grabbed his young son from the carriage just as they were thrown to the ground, both mud spattered but unhurt after a miraculous escape.

Masons Hold Social With Musical Program and Games

Friday evening in the Masonic hall about thirty five Masons and their ladies attended a social. F D Chad wick and wife Mrs F A Rich ardson assisted, with an orchestra including John Charters Dr S C Gould and A J Orner. Ice cream and cake were served and games were played. The Chicago and North Western Railway announced a $25 round trip from Chicago to Denver Pueblo in September for the Centennial Celebration of Pike's Peak discovery, with lines east of Chicago likely to match.

Wool Brings Big Prices At Zeller Sheep Yards
