George E Reiman Civil War Vet Dies in Oregon
George E. Reiman aged civil war veteran died at his Oregon home Friday May 24 after years of suffering. Born October 1843 he served in Mulligan's Irish Brigade and the 46th Illinois, wounded at Lexington Missouri, reenlisted 1864 and discharged 1866. He was city marshal for 25 years and survived by wife Julia, a brother Frank, and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held May 26 assisted by the G A R encampment. The Gazette notes other district events including a school picnic, Woodmen memorial, and commencement tickets.

A series of break ins hits Ashton area with Frank Eisenberg’s store looted Friday night. Cameras, a tripod and cigars vanish along with dozens of dollars. Homes also robbed for small sums while jewelry left untouched. Local suspicion on whether the crime was local or outside.

Bank Moves This Morning In New East Store Corner
The Ashton Bank is moved to the east side of Stephan's furniture store where it will operate until a new bank building is ready next fall. The vault floor is concrete reinforced with four layers of twisted rods to deter burglary. Nearby residents Mr. Joshua Wingert, Perry Burdick, and others were noted in social visits and travel.

Eighth Grade Graduation At Ashton Opera House
The fourth annual graduation exercises for eighth graders will be held next Tuesday evening in the Ashton opera house. A class of twenty will complete their course with essays recitations songs and instrumental numbers in an eight page booklet with gilt embossed cover tied with white and purple lacers. Superintendent L W Miller will deliver the address and present diplomas. The class of 1912 is the largest to finish eighth grade so far and includes seven boys and thirteen girls.

Dixon Home Coming Week Promises Big Entertainment
The Booster's Club of Dixon, a 250 member business and professional group, plans a Home Coming Week from June 10 to 15 with attractions including Kahlil Barkoot's 19 act show group and the Royal Italian Band. Free acts will be staged twice daily, afternoon and evening, as part of the festivities. Local interest runs high as club members expect a successful week.

Petrie Guests Honor Longtime Resident Vosburg on 92nd Birthday
N A Petrie hosted a surprise party Friday afternoon for John Vosburg at his Rochelle home in honor of his 92nd birthday. Guests included James Quick, Adam Feldkirchner, John Thompson, Jacob Pfeiffer, George Putman, J C Moats, Henry J A Griese, and Ralph J Dean. Thompson enjoyed his first automobile ride, as the group reflected on long lives and changes since the Civil War era. Vosburg, born May 24, 1820 in Fulton County New York, had previously owned the farm near George Sand Rock.{}
