Evangelist Norman H. Camp spoke on the life of D L Moody and his prison work to a packed audience at the Opera House. The Bible Institute Colportage Association of Chicago sponsored the lecture and fund drive, noting 641000 gospel books distributed to over 2000 prisons by May 1, 1912. Memorial Exercises Set For Decoration Day Observances
Memorial day events are planned with Rev A E Simester speaking at Washington Grove Christian Church. In town, old soldiers and Spanish war veterans will assemble at the town hall at 1:30 PM, march west on Main Street to the school campus for a program, then proceed to the cemetery for a memorial service. Miss Anna Joyce of Rockford wed Mr Charles Wickum of Rockford at St Patrick church Amboy in a 9 30 a m ceremony. Rev Father Swanson officiated. Attendants were Joseph Joyce and Irene Gorman. A dinner followed at Mrs Cotter’s Amboy home and a reception at the bride’s mother’s house. The couple will reside in Rockford where Wickum works as a foundry foreman. Ashton walloped DeKalb 11 to 1 as Paddock pitched superbly and earned a place on DeKalb’s first team for Sunday games. DeKalb’s pitcher struggled, while Ashton supported Paddock well.
