Funeral of John S. Thompson Ends Quiet City Builder
John S. Thompson, a longtime cabinet maker and undertaker known for building many Ashton homes and the Catholic church, died Monday afternoon at his home after a brief illness. He leaves five daughters and a widow Lydia Hitchcock Thompson, with funeral services at 2 PM today conducted by Rev. Alfred E. Simester, to rest in Ashton cemetery.

Admit Liquids to Mails Under New Parcel Rules
Amendments to parcel post regulations have arrived at the local post office detailing changes since the year began. Admit liquids oils pastes and salves will be mailed if kept in strong four ounce bottles no more than 24 ounces per parcel and wrapped as specified. metal containers capped at eleven pounds require hermetic sealing and fragile marking. Memorial Day Exercises at Town Hall and Parade
Old soldiers meet at 2 P M at the town hall to elect a captain and form in line for a parade led by the band to the platform. Rev A E Simister opens with a prayer, stockwell speaks, Northrup reads a poem, roll of honor read, songs performed, and unknown dead memorialized before decorating graves and returning to town.

James Bates Dies at DeKalb Civil War Veteran
James E Bates a Civil War hero and brother of the late Em Bates died Saturday at his home 517 South Fifth street DeKalb after a long illness. Born December 27 1845 he enlisted August 12 1862 in Co H 75th Illinois Infantry serving until June 12 1865. He married Harriet Arcell Bailey in 1860s later wed Mounthia Swartz and moved to Nachusa then DeKalb in 1893. Survived by four stepchildren and one sister, funeral Tuesday at 2 PM conducted by Rev Anthony T Horn.

Graduation Exercises at Lee Center Opera House
