Secretary of State Lewis G. Stevenson issues a Safety First circular urging strict compliance with state auto laws. The notice warns on intoxicated driving, unlicensed chauffeurs, no racing on highways, proper lighting, license validity, and driving etiquette to protect the public.
A civic notice urging respect for the law and support for road safety. It cites a 1915 Cook County toll of 25 fatalities and 8,217 injuries from automobile incidents to illustrate the stakes and encourage public responsibility.
Next Sunday in Ashton marks Go To Sunday School Day with a township convention agenda. Morning sessions at the Methodist church lead to a Sunday school topic by Rev. Fred A. Graham, followed by an afternoon at the Presbyterian church with Rev. Graham and Rev. Eller. Evening services at the United Evangelical church feature Prof. O A Faghler and Rev. R L MacWherter as speakers. All residents are invited to attend both the convention and Sunday schools starting at 9 30.
Messrs. Knapp and Smith, proprietors for the Ashton Sheep Yards, have imported a mammoth jack from Missouri now at the yards. They will obtain papers in a few days and advertise the full pedigree next week.
A basket social and entertainment will be held at Yorty school three miles north of Ashton on Friday evening May 12. Admission ten cents for those not bringing baskets. Miss Mabel Andrew, teacher, notes this event. Also an office X Ray service is now available for pictures and treatment by J W Dats M D.
Rural Eighth Grade graduation exercises drew a packed audience at the high school auditorium. The event featured Ashton High School Orchestra music, readings by Mrs. F A Graham, a keynote by Dixon State's Attorney Harry Edwards, and diploma presentations by County Superintendent L W Miller.

At the Evangelical conference in Streator Rev. W. H. Manshardt of Hooppole was named pastor of Ashton and Reynolds churches, with five other appointments listed by district. Earlier, 2,600 pigeons released from Chicago flights soared over Ashton as residents watched, with birds returning to city homes amid variable weather.
Large turnout at the Methodist church as ten new members joined. The evening featured an orchestra directed by Miss Loala Quick, readings by Mrs. F A Graham, a solo by Miss Helen Army, and a talk by Rev Sham Rives. Younger attendees played games. older guests shared a social hour and discussed questions. Brick ice cream and wafers were served.
A church notice urges every member of Class No 6 to attend next Sabbath at 9 30 for a regular class session. The orchestra will play at the opening service and everyone is asked to invite others to attend Sunday School.
The city council, meeting Monday, reelected W. B. Farrier as marshal and N. A. Petrie as city treasurer. Mayor Jeter kept committees the same and the 7000 appropriation ordinance was approved. Pool licenses granted. several street and sidewalk issues discussed. council adjourned at ten.
