Convention Brings Wide Attendance to Ashton Sunday Schools
Sunday in Ashton saw 623 attending nine thirty sessions across three local schools. The township Sunday school convention filled Methodist Episcopal church for the first session and United Evangelical church for the evening. Rev Fred A Graham and Rev J G Eller spoke on topics relating to sustaining Sunday school results and its text book. Officers elected for next year were A W Rosecrans president E J Yenerich secretary and A M Moore treasurer. The 1916 convention was noted as among the best attended and most interesting in the city.

Daisy Clark Wins In Suit Over Boy's Death
In the circuit court Daisy Clark won a judgment of 450 dollars against George Dillon for the death of her four year old son who was riding with his sister when a buggy was struck by Dillon's auto near Ashton last fall. The amount reflects a prior 200 dollar payment and a settlement due to concerns about the children driving a horse. Separately Fred A Schaale and his wife, longtime local bakers, vanished with three suitcases after closing Saturday night. They boarded an early Sunday train to Chicago and left a note for landlords Mills and Petrie. They also left some debts partially secured.

Philatheas Ent entertained by local hosts
The Philatheas met Friday evening at Mrs. E. Stephan home with assistance from Mrs. Henry Heinze roth Mrs. John Walter Mrs. H. L. Winder and Miss Anna Nerstad. Delegates Henry Heinzeroth and Theodore McCade were chosen to attend the first annual state convention in Elgin next week.

Last Thursday the grade orchestra gave a schoolwide concert marking their first performance. Classes study Victoria's reign with Caesar readings and music topics. Freshmen face teasing in class. The A H S baseball team beat Compton 4-2, with a full lineup and four cars of supporters.

Adam Feldkirchner Dies After Long Illness at 87
Adam Feldkirchner a longtime Ashton resident died Tuesday morning at 10 30 at the home of his daughter Mrs John Schafer after a six month illness. Born June 20 1828 in Bavaria Germany he came to America at 23 and settled in Ashton in 1857. He married Elizabeth Blewbaugh who died four years ago. Survived by eight children 88 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren the funeral will be Thursday at 10 30 from his daughter’s home conducted by Rev Fred A Graham with interment in Ashton cemetery.

The Lee County Sunday School Association plans its jubilee convention in this city on May 23 and 24. Aimed at organizing work, organizing committees include reception registration ushers decorating and transport for delegates. A full program will be published next week and locals encouraged to ensure a successful county event.

Franklin Pioneer Charles Helmershausen Dies at 94
Charles Helmershausen known as Charles Hausen, Franklin Grove pioneer, died at home Friday night May 5 at 9 30 aged over 94. Born April 19 1822 in Bristol Maine he came to Lee county in 1840 and voted 73 times in Franklin Grove. Survived by widow, six children Frank Chase Floyd Henry Adella and Alice and six grandchildren. A prohibitionist and Universalist, he belonged to the Masonic lodge. Funeral Sunday at 1 30 p m conducted by the Masons. interment Franklin Grove cemetery.

Asparagus Shipment Sets Local Record For 712 Crates
The largest asparagus shipment in local history went out Sunday evening, totaling 712 crates and about 12,000 pounds. Six growers supplied the produce, with crates distributed among Rae Oellig, Edgar Shippee, Conrad Smith, Squire Jennings, Clarence Drummond, and Oscar Schade. the train was delayed 16 minutes during loading.
