Warren Dixon and Clayton White Rock report the death of Lahman a longtime Franklin Grove resident and churchman struck by a limb while assisting in tree work in the Brethren church yard. He died instantly from a fractured skull and leaves a widow four children and siblings. Funeral plans await word from relatives in California. Next Tuesday marks the 84th anniversary of Ashton’s 1889 fire that destroyed 28 business houses. The piece recalls water shortages, Dixon fire response, and early rebuilding led by Mills Petrie and local figures, plus the Bates Building surviving, and N A Petrie planning new apartments. Thieves broke into The Woolf dry goods store in Rochelle after business hours Saturday and stole about $600 worth of goods. The loot included 42 ladies silk dresses and 20 ladies silk spring coats. No crew was involved.

Former Ashton Boy Dallas Taylor Dies in Oklahoma
Dallas Z Taylor former Ashton resident died in Oklahoma at 2 80 a m on March 16 1922 from stomach and gall stone trouble. He was born Sept 5 1889 in Taylor township Illinois and moved to Oklahoma City in 1909 where he lived with his sister. He served as assistant state manager for Thos Cossack Advertising Co and belonged to Oklahoma City Lodge No 86 A F and A M. Funeral services were held at the home of Mr and Mrs E H Chadwick conducted by Rev James A Foard with Ashton Masonic Lodge assisting. Interment at Washington Grove cemetery delayed due to bad roads. He leaves a widowed mother Mrs J Z Taylor and sister Mrs M H Randall both of Oklahoma City. He was the only son of Mr and Mrs J Z Taylor. father died when he was four.

O P Canfield a pioneer Illinois teacher died March 15 1922 in Ashton age 79 11 18. Born Romeo Michigan March 27 1842 he taught public schools for about 30 years and was a longtime church and Odd Fellows member. Survived by wife Alice Jones two children William Canfield and Mrs Arthur Gehant two grandchildren and a brother in Constantine Michigan. Funeral at Ashton Methodist Church conducted by Rev James A Foard. Interment Ashton Cemetery.
