Class No 6 ViolTs Starved Rock River Trip Delights Members
The Methodist Episcopal Sunday school Class No 6 led by Mr A W Rosecrans took 14 automobiles carrying 65 men from Mendota to Deer Park and Starved Rock. They explored canyons, rode a paddlewheel boat, swam in the Illinois River, and visited Salt Well and Council Cave with guides Editor A Richards and Father Quirk. The five mile upstream ride, the Horseshoe canyon sights, and the scenic Starved Rock summit provided a memorable day with no accidents.

Rock River Assembly at Dixon opens Saturday July 26 with Governor Eberhart of Minnesota as speaker. He invites listeners with a national presence from the recent campaign. Sunday July 27 Rev. Wedderspoon of Washington DC will deliver a sermon lecture. Noted lecturers include Dr. Cook ex Gov Hanley Hillis and Father Nugent. Park and grounds praised as many plan to camp.

Aged Pioneer Jane Brown Dies at Mt Vernon Iowa
Aged pioneer Mrs Jane Brown died Monday morning in Mt Vernon Iowa aged 84 years 11 months and 12 days Funeral held yesterday at the home of James Batchelor with Rev A E Simester officiating She was born in Ireland July 12 1828 married James Brown in Canada 1850 and spent years in Illinois before moving to Mt Vernon Iowa to live with daughter Mrs Persnes Survivors include seven children two daughters Mrs Persnes and Mrs T G Taylor and five others Also six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Her faith in Methodism remained strong throughout illness and she passed peacefully in the presence of loved ones.

Dixon Fourth of July Celebration Plans Big Public Event
Dixon will host a grand Fourth of July with events from morning to night. An expert aviator will fly twice between 10 am and 6 pm, vaudeville acts will occupy elevated platforms, three bands from Dixon Morrison and West Brooklyn will perform, plus motorcycle races athletic contests and an auto parade. Two Dixon Sterl ing baseball games, dancing and merry go rounds are on the schedule. A Northwestern special train will run east from Dixon at 9 30 pm reaching Ashton around 10 pm for eastbound travelers as far as DeKalb. The Young Men's Commercial Club of Dixon organizes the celebration with ample resources and a cordial welcome to locals and guests.

West Stone Road Finished In The Township
The western road project has advanced enough to move machinery to the John Ventler farm quarry. A new north road reaches Jacob Van Ness, and the west road nears the town line. The old hard road is redressed except for the east end to be covered from the Vender quarry. Work quality is good but slow due to labor shortages, and completion this year seems unlikely.
Dixon District Camp Meeting Opens July 10 at Franklin Grove
The Dixon Districts Camp Meeting begins Thursday July 10 at 2:00 p m at Franklin Grove. Bishop William Fraser McDowell delivers the opening address. The Dixon Methodist church chair leads the singing as a stereopticon lecture series starts in the evening. Cottages should be ordered now for ten days of pleasure and profit with a rally expected as autos are urged to join.

Seibel Bros Circus to Visit Ashton with Two Shows
Seibel Bros. dog and pony circus returns to Ashton for two performances on Wednesday July 2. The act claims a larger show this year with new attractions and a top on the road production. The Paw Paw Times praises the visit as the best of its kind here with well trained animals, long and varied acts, and courteous staff. A grand free street parade will precede the show. residents are urged to come early.

Will Canfield Takes Bride in Pemberton Minnesota
William M. Canfield of Pemberton and Miss Ida E. Hoffman of East Chain married at her father's home on June 18. Rev Gedye officiated with about forty guests. After a luncheon the couple left for the Twin Cities and the Dakotas, to settle in Pemberton where Canfield runs a mercantile business.
