Kilties Band to Play Monday at Chautauqua Event
The Kilties Band a nineteen piece Scottish group in full tartan outfits will perform Monday June 21 at the Ashton Community Chautauqua. The program includes Scottish bagpipe selections and features Miss Jean Campbell as soloist under Alfred Dunn. Stratford Opera Company closes the session with a Mikado portion Tuesday evening.

The Ashton community picnic at Hunts grove last Tuesday listed winners across many events including the fifty and one hundred yard dashes for various ages, relay and sack races, wheelbarrow and three legged races, and pie and milk contests. Winners received chautauqua tickets.

Canada’s Kilties Band to Perform Fourth Day at Chautauqua
The Kilties Band of Canada, organized in 1900, will appear on the fourth day of Chautauqua week. Renowned for kilts and regimental dress, they have drawn massive crowds in London, Philadelphia, Sydney, and St. Louis. They have played for King Edward VII at Balmoral and Sandringham and offer bagpipe performances and old Scotch songs.

Train Kills Herman Conrad at East of Flagg Crossing
A Northwestern road eastbound train struck Herman Conrad’s buggy at the Flagg crossing, killing him instantly as rain muffle d sounds. The collision wrecked the buggy. the horse escaped injury and identification of the victim was difficult due to severe injuries.

Shower Honors Miss Amanda Vaupel At Yenerich Home
Mrs. Erven J. Yenerich and Miss Ada Kersten hosted a miscellaneous shower for Miss Amanda Vaupel with twenty guests. The home featured abundant flowers and gifts for the honoree. Refreshments of ice cream, strawberries, and cake were served. Ernest Thomas, recently ill with pneumonia and scarlet fever, is now out and thanks friends for their kindness.

Alumni Reception and Class of 1815 Commencement at Ashton High
The 27th annual Ashton High School commencement was held last Wednesday in the auditorium with Rev. H N Bannen of Rockford as speaker. He spoke on A Great American, praising Jacob A Rees of New York. The small class included Luella Schafer Alma Mall and Henry Stephan. Prizes and diplomas were presented by Prof. Noffsinger who departs to Mt Morris College. An alumni reception followed Friday evening with decorated auditorium, college pennants, peonies, and gold and white colors.
