Ashton School Holds Eight Grade and Alumni Prom
The Ashton School celebrated its twenty-ninth annual commencement with eight graduates conferred diplomas. Dr. Preston Bradley gave the address on the Value of an Ideal, and the program featured music by the high school orchestra. Eighth grade members included Krug, Hart, Meister, Wiener, Gilbert, Craig, Durston and others with a class motto We're Out to Win. The alumni reception drew over one hundred attendees despite a storm, with Marguerite Roesler opening remarks and a handshaking contest followed by music and talks.

Rail fare hike takes effect in Illinois lines
The long discussed rail passenger rate increase is now in force, adding four tenths of a cent per mile. Chicago fare rises to 2.02 from 1.68, with Roselle at 22 cents and Dixon 86 cents, Franklin Grove 12 cents. Union service planned for Sunday at 10 45 conducted by Rev. Fred A. Graham and Rev. F W Landner with a double quartet and Presbyterian orchestra. Mrs A J Orner hosted Philathaeas at her country home Monday afternoon with a brief meeting and treats.

Death of John William Jones at Strongs Michigan
John William Jones, former Ashton resident and North Western station agent, died at his Strongs home May 29 at about 60. Born April 27 1857 in Goodrich Canada he married Lavina Bates May 8 1884. Survived by four children and one granddaughter. Funeral at Strongs Methodist church with interment in Brimley. Also notes Sanders school picnic closing with dinner and program by Mrs. F A Graham and Rev Graham.

The Ashton Red Cross reports a 200 member total the largest ratio to population in the area. The auxiliary grows rapidly as 12 new members joined Tuesday and 33 attended work session. Meetings are held in the high school auditorium every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.
