Early Reynolds settler John A Griese dies at 76
John A Griese a pioneer farmer of Reynolds township died Friday June 5 at 10 15 p m at his daughter Mrs Fred Mehlhausen home aged 76 years seven months and one day. He leaves eight children three sisters and many relatives. Funeral 2 30 p m at St Johns Lutheran church with Rev Gustav Mack officiating. Interment in local cemetery. Also obituary notices for Mrs Edward H Reed sister of Mayor Farver and a card of thanks from Griese family.

Ashton loses its sole manufacturing plant as lack of help forces closure. Machinery purchased by Swan and Leydig will move to Dixon quickly. Foreman Raymond Losey will accompany the move, and several local women have learned to operate the machines. The sale ends Ashton’s hose production and leaves the community regretful. Eyes examined and glasses fitted by Dr. Rose Optic al Company at the Ashton hotel on June 13.

Lincoln Highway Cement Version Aims for Four Miles of Paving
At the Lincoln Highway township consuls meeting in DeKalb Illinois officials announced 8000 barrels of cement from the Lincoln Highway association would be divided into four lots of 2000 barrels each for four sections. Townships will bid for cement use with the best proposition receiving the allotted amount. The cement road will be one mile per section and designed with a macadam shoulder. Lincoln Highway progress shows 59 miles of Illinois roads remain unimproved though traffic favors cement pavement. The plan emphasizes speed and scale, viewing the project as a monument to Abraham Lincoln rather than a commercial stock venture.

Obituary of Mrs G D Cook In Rochelle
The sudden death of Mrs. G. D. Cook Sunday May 81st shocked friends and the community. She had been ill for two years and passed away at 12 30 after church attendance. Her son Oliver returned from St. Paul to care for her, arriving home at eight. A faithful Presbyterian, she valued reading and Chautauqua, graduating in 1896.
