Historic London tour by W E Paddock on the Mauretania

Special correspondence from London May 15 1911 recounts W E Paddock’s voyage on the Cunard Mauretania from New York to Liverpool and onward visiting Liverpool docks the Tower of London Parliament and Westminster Abbey. He notes costs wages and sights including the Rosetta Stone Bank of England and Buckingham Palace while detailing plans to tour Paris and Italy before returning to New York Sept 2.

Commencement Ticket Sales At Gazette Book Store

Tickets for the high school commencement exercises go on sale tomorrow morning at seven o'clock at the Gazette Book Store. Limited to six tickets per person and no telephone orders until after those present have purchased. Eighth grade exercise tickets go on sale Saturday morning.

Memorial Service Honors Civil War Veterans in City

A largely attended Memorial Day service featured Dr. R Scott Hyde delivering a message on national unity and sacrifice. The Woodmen Band, veterans groups, and a Ravenna pastor spoke to honor the dead and the nation, with a later Chicago crowd swearing an oath after Fort Sumter events.

Lincoln and Nation Honor Unknown Dead in Memorial Ceremony

In a solemn scene the crowd pledged allegiance to the United States, honoring Lincoln and unknown soldiers. The ceremony featured prayers, a choral of Soldier Rest, a roll of honor, and a procession from town to the cemetery where graves were decorated by schoolchildren.

New Time Card Changes Northwestern Trains

A new time card goes into effect on the Northwestern Sunday, altering running times for several fast trains. Overland Limited Nos 1 and 2 shift departures and arrivals, with No 1 leaving Chicago at 10 44 p m westbound and No 2 eastbound at 6 51 a m. Mail car changes accompany the schedule, and trains switch to a Madison Street Chicago station next Sunday morning. An express station is under construction at Lake Street to consolidate express cars.

Merchants Consider Oil for Main Street District

City merchants discuss oiling two blocks on Main Street and Evans Avenue. Standard Oil rep says 6000 gallons minimum at about 3 cents per gallon, costing roughly $190. Merchants pledge to fund with city work on streets, early circulation raised nearly $100, plan to present to council next Monday. D M Billmire visited Rochelle Monday morning.

Reed D C Summoned From Earthly Toil

Dudley Orlando Reed a Lafayette township resident for over fifty years died Friday at 1 15 PM at his home five miles north of the city after a three year illness Heart failure was the direct cause He was born June 12 1861 and was nearly sixty He married Lavilla Cook February 20 1878 The Reed family moved among farms in Lafayette township Blue Hill Nebraska and Taylor township Ogle county before returning home He leaves a wife five children Claude C Maude Wilson Ida Zoe Harold Clifford and James Arlen and four grandchildren Brothers and sisters include Albert Gilbert and nine others The funeral was at Washington Grove Church with interment in Washington Grove Cemetery
