Severe Electrical Storm Hits Ashton Area
A severe electrical storm drenched Ashton yesterday between 1 and 2 am with heavy rain and intense lightning. Three large fires were seen. a barn on the Amanda Miller farm west of town burned after being struck, with Willis Phillips tenant. The storm disrupted telephone lines and hindered communications with residents east of town.

Big Crowds Attend Thirty-First District Camp Meeting
The thirty first annual District Camp Meeting at Franklin Grove drew record crowds with 11 200 on Sunday, 200 more than last year’s first Sunday. Bishop William F. McDowell delivered the opening address as the Dixon Methodist choir of 25 provided a sacred concert. Lectures and sermons followed, with Dr J Boyd to speak on China Hill Cities of the Himalayas tomorrow. Ashton and local Methodists joined many families camping on the grounds as missions topics filled the two opening days.

Real estate sale nets 61545 for late John Kersten Sr
The late John Kersten Sr's real estate was sold in this city Tuesday afternoon to a large crowd. Mrs William Heibenthal bought the residence one block north of G A Hamels store for 3625. A 160 acre northwest quarter of section 21, 24 miles northwest of town, sold to Edward Herwig and Arthur Kersten at 137 per acre. A second 160 acre farm four miles west of Ashton and one mile north of Franklin Grove sold to Frank Kersten of Franklin Grove at 16250 per acre. Proceeds totaled 51545. Paul Hurd appointed agent at Glen Ellyn station.

C and NW Receives Engines On Monday Train Hauls Heaviest Kept
The Chicago and Northwestern pulled the heaviest train east through the city, 2600 tons with 77 loaded cars. Engine No 2503 of a new J class led, one of 15 ordered for this division, two received so far. The new class is larger than Z and weighs over 410000 pounds with eight driving wheels.
