The July city council meeting approved improving Main street and funding oiling of street intersections to aid merchants and residents. Six cars of crushed stone will cost about 425 dollars f o b Ashton, with oiling planned for about 16 blocks using a 6500 gallon tank car.

Howard Quick Farm Sells for 73000 in Ashton History
The largest Ashton transaction was completed when Howard Quiel sold two tracts totaling 289.67 acres to Nathan Sanders for 250 per acre, amounting to 73000 and setting a new farm price record. The land lies south of the railroad in sections 1 and 27, leased to S. T. & Son for sheep feeding for ten years, with improvements owned by Zeller & Son. Sanders plans to enter the sheep feeding industry and the sale may boost local business activity. Trading partners include E. M. Sheldon as the negotiator. the deal further consolidates Ashton’s sheep yards impact on the railway town life.

Material shortages hinder the schoolhouse project and two carloads of Indiana cornice are awaited. Editor and Mrs Ralph J Dean visited Belvidere for the Fourth, returning with Mrs Dean’s brother George. Ellen Griffith will lead Christian Endeavor at the Presbyterian church, 6 15 pm, with no services the next two Sundays. Miss Mabel Staley attended Miss Lulu Minott’s funeral after a skyrocket accident at Aurora. Bulger Bros Big Show will visit Ashton yearly with At Sandy Hook as this year’s play. The show promises quality entertainment. Ad copy for Indian Motorcycle and W R Hensel’s agency in Dixon. George Hunt, Rochelle native, died in Los Angeles after appendicitis surgery.

A later note mentions the accident of E S Rosecrans when William Gonnerman’s car struck a cement culvert near Kyte Creek bridge, injuring Rosecrans.
