County assessors report Lee County lands valued at 10 650 218 with a near 14 000 year over year rise. Horses total 21 431 head valued at 1 318 553 while cattle number 31 423 valued at 759 901. Ashton township shows farm land value 288 155 and average 88.26 per acre ranking third in the county for land value and horses.
Illinois hunters face legal confusion as 500000 licenses were printed under old rules before a new game law. The back of blanks shows an outdated synopsis, causing some to be allowed to shoot certain animals while others must refrain. Licenses remain valid for a year, delaying resolution and creating enforcement uncertainty.
The thirty first annual Dixon District Camp Meeting ends at Franklin Grove with about 2500 in attendance Sunday. All association cottages were rented and most private ones opened. A W Rosecrans led the Sunday school lesson to over 1200 listeners while 50 from his class attended. The Dixon Methodist choir presented a thirty minute sacred concert in the afternoon.
The Tice law makes the highway supervisor ex officio treasurer of the road and bridge fund. The supervisor earns 2 percent on the first 2000 and 1 percent on amounts above that, while former practice let a board member be treasurer. The supervisor must approve expenditures of 200 or more and will attend highway meetings for a fee.
The twenty sixth annual Rock River Assembly in Dixon Illinois begins Saturday July 24 with Gov Eberhart of Minnesota as lead speaker. A strong program includes music lectures and Sunday sermons by Rev Wedderspoon and Ex Gov Hanly plus other noted speakers and moving pictures nightly.
One hundred men are invited to attend Sunday school at the Methodist Episcopal church next Sunday at 9 30 in the morning. They will study the old testament lessons with Class No 6. Valley day is next Sunday and all class members and others are urged to be present.
County Superintendent L. W. Miller stated there will be no change in the recommended textbooks for Lee county this year with one exception. Agriculture replaces civics in the list, will be required for rural school graduation, while civics becomes optional.
Bobby Toole, supreme editor of the Mystic Workers, promotes a new lodge in Ashton and rejects tearing down existing lodges. He highlights cordial ties with Modern Woodmen and Royal Neighbors, plans a free banquet, and predicts a strong, socially oriented lodge. A couple, Mr and Mrs George R Charter, tour the Pacific coast visiting major cities before attending their son George’s Spokane wedding.
Jacob Zimmerman born July 5 1841 in Hessen Germany died July 17 1913 at his Rochelle home aged 72 years 12 days Married Anna Martha Mehlhaus in 1862 and came to America in 1865 with children George and Mary They farmed in Lee County near Rochelle then moved to Rochelle in 1905 His wife died in 1907 He left eight grandchildren and ten children funeral held in Rochelle Rev Scott Presbyterian officiated
Obituary notes LEM A Tilton died July 14 1913 in Guthrie county Iowa at age 64 11 months and 24 days. He left a wife Annetta nee Burney eight children two deceased three grandchildren and several siblings. Funeral was held at the Dunkard church Panora with Rev Mutchler delivering the sermon and burial in the Dunkard cemetery.

Oil for city streets due today after arrival of car and supervisor. About 14 blocks signed for oiling with Main Street to run its full length and several avenues to be treated. Also notes street repairs and a planned Mystic Lodge organize and a public notice about local tourism counts.
