Sanders Sentenced to Life in Joliet Penitentiary
Warren Sanders was sentenced to life imprisonment in Joliet penitentiary with solitary confinement on the first day and hard labor thereafter for the murder of Melva Griffith. Judge Farrand described the case at a crowded Ashton court. the hearing covered years of conduct, marriages, and affairs leading to the tragedy.

Death of Mrs Mae Strickfaden Sheld in Quarantine
Mrs Mae Strickfaden Sheld died in Rochelle after scarlet fever struck her household. Born April 10 1877 to Rev and Mrs Strickfaden she was an Elgin High School graduate and longtime bookkeeper for David Cooke fishing in Rochelle. She married Dr E M Sheld in 1898 and lived in this city most of their married life. Owing to quarantine no funeral could be held though a brief service occurred at the home and a grave service followed at Groveland cemetery Peoria where she is buried beside her mother. She leaves husband father step mother two sisters Alma and Mrs Charles Forberg and one brother Wellington with many relatives.

Ford touring car shipment arrives for Cliff Knapp
Clifford snapp local Ford dealer received a Detroit factory carload of touring cars Monday. Cars arrived dismantled six packed in the vehicle and later set up for display with seven cars on hand. New Ford bodies this year praised by drivers and observers. Revival meetings at United Evangelical Church closed last Sunday with eight conversions and strong attendance over three weeks.

Obituary and community notes recall Faye Leanore Gehant born March 7 1904 in Dixon died January 20 1918 aged 8 years 10 months and 13 days. She was active in the Methodist Episcopal church Sunday school and local kindergarten and first grade work. Runaway Wagon Team Terrifies Town Near McCrea’s Store
A frightened team escaped near McCrea’s grocery, narrowly missing injuries to bystanders. Andrew Drummond diverted the horses from Hamel’s windows, a wagon was overturned, Jacob Wagner Jr. was knocked down, and a horse suffered a chest injury from a hitching post pipe. The team finally halted after a lengthy Main Street chase. Reynolds Township tax collection announced for The Ashton Bank on Thursdays.
