A year end retrospective notes 1905 as a record year for Ashton with unusually pleasant weather, strong business, and notable community events. It lists numerous marriages, deaths, elections, civic changes, church activities, and infrastructure developments across the period January to September, highlighting social life, municipal decisions, and local milestones.
Funeral services were held at the Ashton Methodist Church for Mrs Susan Leichliter nee Sauer born March 20 1861 in Somerset County died December 30 1905 after a lengthy illness. She rose from Franklin Grove Illinois to marry William Leichliter in 1880. The couple lived near Abion before settling in Ashton where three children were born Candace and Roscoe survive with her husband predeceased in 1888. Mrs Leichliter was active in the Methodist Episcopal church and known for her gentle Christian spirit. The notice also recounts a Christmas program at Sanders School with a decorated tree and gifts for pupils and teacher Kathryn Schade praising the student efforts and district thanks for the school term work.

We have three brothers and two sisters with Albert in South Dakota George in Chicago Norman in Dixon Mary now Mrs Thompson in Dixon Ella the youngest in Aurora Mrs Leichliter died after a long illness with bronchial trouble the funeral was held Monday Jan 1 in the afternoon at two oclock in the Sl i Cuuren Ashton cemetery. Sale Bills: The season for selling is near and we want former friends to remember to get their bills printed at THE Gaz office for a free notice in this paper. Bills are up to date and display well and the notice in the paper reaches buyers. If you advertise a sale don t rely solely on bills or notices We furnish sale notes.
A basket social is planned at Reynolds School five miles east of Ashton on Tuesday January 9. A good program will be provided at Reynolds School. All are cordially invited. 4313 Cuas E Houey, teacher.
Vocal pupils sought by an experienced Chicago teacher with free voice testing on Saturdays. For details inquire at residence of M. M. Billmire. Also notes Lewis Martin and wife of Elkheart Indiana visiting brother Dewitt Ellenwood staying with Jacob Van Ness after stopping between trains Thursday.
A dance will be held at Schuchart's Opera House on Saturday evening January 6. Everyone is invited to attend the event.
We thank friends and neighbors for kindness and sympathy during the death of our mother Roscork Leichliter. Canvace Leichliter.
Mr and Mrs pW Fityer and wife of Franklin Grove spent New Years Day with their son J B Farver and his family.
City council met with all members present and approved bills totaling 282 dollars. Lighting committee reviewed gas costs and referred price adjustments to the next meeting. Topics included hall insurance, a telephone for fire night use, a gas light for the quarry, sidewalk for John Schade, railroad crossing bells, and firecracker penalties with no further action.
