Death Angel Sad Dens Several Homes

Obituary notes and funeral reports for A A Thorpe a longtime grain dealer of Flagg and Lewis Craig as well as Mrs Lavilla Cook Reed of Dixon. Walter D. Pickle dies after short illness in Rochelle

Walter D. Pickle a well known Rochelle man died Friday after a short illness with pneumonia at nearly 50 years old. He joined Stocking Trust & Savings Bank in 1907 as bookkeeper and rose to assistant cashier. He married Elizabeth Stocking in 1918 and they had daughter Jean aged four. He was a member of Masonic bodies and his funeral was noted.

A dense list of names and ranks from the Navy Marines Army and aviation units. The roster includes officers such as 1st Lieutenants Chester Root Tee Herwig and DeWitt Ellinwood, and 2nd Lieutenants Harrison Wagner and many others across artillery cavalry field aviation and ordnance. The fragment enumerates personnel by unit and specialty with numerous spellings and initials.

The Monday gathering at the Presbyterian church drew a large crowd, filling the pews and reflecting strong local participation.

Income Tax Man Friday Comes to Ashton for 1918 Returns

If you are single with 1918 income of 1000 dollars or married with 2000 dollars you must report to the U S Government by March 15. Mr J J Burke will be at The Ashton Bank this Friday February 28 to assist. Farmers must file a schedule of income and expenses. Penalty for noncompliance is severe. Epworth League invites all to a 6 PM meeting led by Miss Ruth Hurd with the topic High Hearts for Great Days.

Dr. Carlson Coming to La Salle Tuesday March 4

Optometrist Dr J B Carlson of La Salle will visit Dr H A Bremmer's office on Tuesday March 4 to fit glasses replacing the earlier announced date. Also a wanted ad seeks farm work from a man, married or single.

Multiple Property Transfers Shift Hands in Local Area

Over the past week there were several property transfers in the city as new owners prepare to move in. Isaac Hilliard sold northwest property to John M. Cleary of Reynship. Hilliard then bought Andrew Kaecker’s residence and swapped with Charles Hangon who bought Yenerich property south of the track for 1500 dollars. August Reinhart moved residence west of the Lutheran church to Schawbacher. the deal closed in December and was just recorded. Heirs of the late George Sr. sold the home of William Lesslie. George F. Schafer will erect a modest residence soon. Schafer recently sold his nes to Jacob Vaupel who will take possession June 1. Ada Ricks sells undivided interest to Sarah George in the home they own jointly. M. M. Billmire’s family moves to property south of the track recently bought from Chas Hanson. Mrs. Lillian Vogel moves from Reinhart property to the house north of the Methodist church vacated by Mrs. Pearl Billmire. Mrs. Billmire will room for her uncle Wesley Beach. M. M. Billmire and son Clint occupy front rooms over J. J. Thome’s grocery. John J. Thome and family relocate from Knecker property in Lyons addition to Mrs. Katherine Meister’s residence, as Mrs. Meister’s illness keeps her near her daughter Mrs. George Walter.
