Funeral Held Friday for Mrs. James Brown in Ashton
The funeral for Mrs. James Brown, born December 18, 1844 in Myerstown Pennsylvania, aged 71 years, 1 month and 21 days, was held Friday at the Ashton home and Presbyterian church. She died Tuesday night from heart failure two weeks after her husband Dr James Brown. Surviving are four children William Lloyd who died in infancy Nancy J and Charles B of Ashton and Arthur J of Chicago, plus three brothers Peter Conrad Cyrus Yorty and sister Mrs Amanda King. Out of town mourners included D E Nickey Ada Yorty Chicago John C Wheeler Oak Park Alfred L Brown Newark H A Hine Maywood Fred Hansen Ed Lott Franklin Grove.

Methodist Boys Banquet Honors Lincoln Birthday
Methodist Sunday school teachers hosted a banquet for 34 boys celebrating Lincoln's birthday. The event featured class seating in a T shaped table, readings by Mrs Graham and Freddie Graham, and a menu of peanut butter sandwiches and scalloped potatoes. The boys closed with singing America.

Joyce Quells Strike With Pipe and Help of Son
The Chicago & North-Western section foreman Michael Joyce and his six foot son stopped a 400 Italian workers strike at the New Yarda camp in West Chicago. The 400 had forced 165 others to quit for a 35 cent raise. Joyce, armed with a gas pipe, and his son restored order as some strikers assaulted foreman Charles Wattell. Fifteen men were carried unconscious. Joyce and his son briefly reinforced by others quelled the riot.

Fumes Overcome Teacher at Sunday School Incident
Two vagrant men slept in a Sunday school near Franklin Grove. They left waste in a room, caused smoke and fumes that felled teacher Miss Ruth Yocum and several pupils. Deputies tracked them to Middlebury, Dixon jailed them for vagrancy. They pled guilty to 60 days each. Additional note: Valentine party at Odd Fellows and Rebekah lodges drew nearly 200 attendees with elaborate decorations, programs, and refreshments.

Village records show deaths more than doubles births with nine burial permits issued and only four birth certificates filed. Public notice warns mail must reach addressee in sealed envelopes and notes past parcels were misrouted to the dead.
