Editor Nolen of Shabbona Chief Ends Life
Joseph A. Nolen editor and publish er of the Shabbona Chief and a recent state legislature candidate killed himself in the press room last week Wednesday. He had been despondent for months after a prior accident in 1910 when his son Harold shot him in the head. He is survived by a wife and five children.

Christmas Programs Brighten Local Churches and School
The Presbyterian Sunday school hosted a Monday parlor program with a Christmas tree and gifts for children. Tuesday featured a public school program in the school hall, directed by Miss Alice Eddy, drawing many patrons. The Methodist Episcopal Sunday School arranged a Tuesday Christmas party for 75 children with a 15-number program, Santa Claus gave presents, and a decorated tree enhanced the room. Parcel Post Reg Changes Extend Books and Weight Limits
The Bulletin lists parcel post updates effective March 16 adding books to mailable items with a 1 cent per two ounces rate for eight ounces and regular zone rate above. From January 1 weight limits rise to 25 pounds in some zones, with new rates for third through sixth zones from six to nine cents for the first pound and two to eight cents for each additional pound. The changes lower costs for frequent parcel post users and aid manufacturers and merchants using government service.

How Starved Rock Gained Its Name
The article recounts a 1769 siege on Starved Rock by Illinois tribe members fleeing Pontiac’s murder. Surrounded twelve days, hunger and thirst forced a desperate sortie, ending in massacre and scattering bones atop the bluff. The starvation tragedy named the Starved Rock site. Picture Theatre Opens Saturday With New Pastime
Breich and Palmer unveil a roving picture theatre near completion to begin operations this Saturday. Built in modern style, remodeled by Mills and Petrie, it seats 190 in comfortable opera chairs and features a top motion picture machine. The white front is lit by electricity and two entrances plus a rear exit meet legal requirements. The Pastime, chosen by N A Petrie, aims to show films several evenings weekly depending on demand.

Township Sues Land Owner Over Narrowed Road
Ashton town filed suit in S T Jennings justice court against Ed Crandall of Rochelle owner of a farm in the northwest township part. Crandall had narrowed a road to 40 feet without legal process. Compromise delayed final decision until after a petition hearing set for December 30. Costs assessed to the defendant totaled 10.50.

Over Heated Cook Stove Nearly Destroys House
The home of John Spratt near town escaped total loss after a kitchen fire started by an overheated stove. Spratt fought the blaze with help from passing motorists, but the kitchen and other rooms suffered smoke and heat damage. losses were estimated at 300 to 400 dollars.

Immense crowd sees Carson of Dixon throw Zimple of Ashton in 12 minutes. Dan Red Wolfe of Dixon defeats Speedy Peterson of Rock Island in three falls 31 minutes, 9 minutes, and 25 minutes with toe holds and a scissor arm hold. Referee was George B. Stephan.
