Mrs Mary Menz Hanson died by self poisoning in the Mrs Ada Newcomer residence after a brief marriage to Mr Urbin Hanson. An inquest found death by own action while temporarily deranged. Funeral held at Evangelical church with interment Reynolds Cemetery.

On Tuesday evening Ash ton Chapter No. 575 Order of the Eastern Star held its annual installation for 1914. Miss Mary E. Charters and Mrs. Kathryn Jennings presided, with a long roster of officers installed including Mrs. Atta Sindlinger as Worthy Matron and Mr. M. N. Glenn as Worthy Patron. A luncheon followed the degree work.

Wells Road Supervisor Appointed In Dixon County
At a Dixon board meeting last Thursday Supervisor A S Wells of Paw Paw was chosen as county highways superintendent with a $2000 annual salary for a six year term. He will oversee hard road work and projects funded by the recent road bill, replacing County Surveyor L B Neight who also qualified. The board proposed revised road maps to balance improvements across China Reynolds Alto townships, moving 2 1/2 miles of road from Amboy to another alignment and ensuring a single improved road between Amboy and Sublette.

The teachers institute held in the Ashton High School auditorium drew a large audience. The program began at 1 30 with the Girls Glee Club directed by Miss Alice C. Eddy, plus talks on botany and Filipino schools. Superintendent J S Noffsinger chaired the session, Stella Krug elected secretary, and a reading circle class was formed with eight assignments set for January 3.

St Johns Lutheran church hosts pound party for Rev Mack
Seventy five members attended a pound party at St Johns Lutheran church for Pastor Rev Mack and his family. Generous gifts were presented during the cheerful event though a fall as guests departed left Mrs Henry Sachs with a dislocated right shoulder. She stayed at the parsonage overnight and returned home the following day.
