Miss Zella Wigent will discuss home economies at the Agricultural Short Course next Monday and Tuesday December 18 and 19 at the Methodist Episcopal Church. The program features ten instructional reels on sheep, corn, farm machinery, home canning, milk value, poultry, silos and farm conveniences, with no admission charged. The six sessions include talks by Mr Hayne and Miss Wigent, music by local orchestras, and question boxes for household queries.

Word arrived of the sudden death of Joseph Gooch a former Ashton citizen who died at his home Tuesday evening from a stroke. The funeral will be Friday at 1 30 PM from the Lincoln Highway farm home between Dixon and Sterling with interment at Ashton. An obituary will follow next week.

Funeral Held for Dr William C MeWethy Leader in Civic Life
Dr William C MeWethy long active in Ashton and Dixon civic affairs died last Thursday at 8 20 AM at his home 519 West Third He was born in Dix and educated at Steinman Institute and Northwestern University Dental School class of 1899 He practiced in Chicago before moving to Ashton and later served as its mayor He married Bertha Hubbard of Dixon in 1900 and they had one son Doty Sheldon He was a member of Elks Masons Modern Woodmen and Presbyterian Church Funeral services were held Sunday at 3 PM from his Dixon home Rev Jesse Tidball officiated Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery with Friendship Lodge No 7 A F and A M and Knights Templar escort

Mail Sack Cut Open as Train Passes No 12
A mail pouch fell from a train Monday evening when a mail clerk attempted to enter it. The sack was cut open and letters scattered across the railroad yards. Section policemen recovered what they could and handed the pieces to a postal official. Many letters were badly damaged.

The Illinois Commerce Commission ordered higher switching charges for Farmers Telephone Company affecting Amboy Ashton Franklin Grove Lee Center and Sublette.
