Government War Savings Plan Promoted In 1917 Act
Postmaster Roesler asks readers to consider the new war savings plan announced by the Treasury Department. Thrift stamps cost 25 cents and war saving stamps range from 4.12 to 4.23 dollars, with certificates redeemable at 100 dollars in 1923. The plan allows small 25 cent investments earning 4 percent quarterly compounded interest, with redemptions possible after January 1, 1918. Private Chester Carnahan of Company M 342nd Regiment at Camp Grant wed Miss Marie Strube, a public school teacher from Compton, on September 15. The couple will reside in the city as she keeps her teaching job. Also, Rose Schaneburg and Louis Sachs were married at the Lutheran parsonage with Rev. G Mack officiating and will live on the groom’s mother’s farm northeast of Ashton.

Red Cross Auxiliary Moves Work Rooms and Knits for Chicago
Local Red Cross Auxiliary has moved from the school basement to the high school auditorium for brighter quarters. Since October 1 they have sent 48 sweaters 38 pairs of socks 14 wristlets 9 scarves 5 helmets and 2 trench caps to Chicago totaling over one hundred items. Washington Grove church donated $15 from a bazaar proceeds with thanks. Also notes church services and meetings at Ashton Bradford United Evangelical and W H and F M S December 12 meeting. Bertha Wedemeier visited Franklin Grove friends.
