Record of Red Cross wartime gifts and growth in the Midwest
The Chicago Tribune reports Red Cross chapters in five Midwest states have sent enormous quantities of knitted garments, surgical dressings, and hospital supplies to France and U.S. camps. October totals include 101,377 garments. November rose to 237,277 pieces, with large shipments to Camp Grant Great Lakes Naval Station Camp Custer and Camp Dodge. Headquarters workers and volunteers process and pack continuously aiming to keep shipments under sixty hours. The drive to add another million members in Illinois Wisconsin Michigan Nebraska and Iowa continues along with December demand for over one million dressings.

Six young men from Ashton departed for Columbus Ohio to join the Ordnance department after traveling to Chicago Sunday evening.
