Lee County Old Settlers Honor 35th Reunion and Officers

The thirty fifth annual Lee County Old Settlers Association reunion drew a sizable but smaller crowd than last year. Officers for the coming year include President Abel Burnham and Secretary Treasurer J W Gray, with an expanded list of township vice presidents and an executive committee from Amboy, Ashton, Dixon, Lee Center and other towns. Music and reminiscences filled the afternoon as speakers praised early pioneers and noted the association’s ongoing remembrances.

Continuance Granted in Walker Replevin Case

The case of Mrs. Walker of the Village did not come up for a hearing Tuesday as her attorney was not ready for trial. By mutual consent Judge Stevenson granted a ten day continuance. Deputy Wiener served a writ of replevin Thursday and took sidewalk boards from Mrs. Walker to city hall. The city has retained Brooks & Brooks as counsel, with Mrs. Walker represented by Attorney Wm. Barge.

Dixon District Methodist Camp Meeting At Franklin Grove

About 1600 attendees at Franklin Grove for the twenty-fifth annual Dixon District gathering of Rock River Conference. Nearly all cottages filled, tents in use, gate receipts 1287, 300 season tickets issued. Preachers included Dr. Herben Epworth Herald and Rev Fred D Stone. Rev Rae of Canada preached. choir of forty led by Rev J P Davies Rochelle.

Refining Crude Oil Tests By W B Garrett

W B Garrett conducted several crude oil tests for a local company using a copper retort. Crude oil from Big Horn Basin was processed with vapor condensed into kerosene via copper tubing and a jar of ice water. The process yielded 30 percent kerosene with by products like gasoline vaseline paraffin and lubricating oil not recovered.

Ashton Loses Series to Steward in Two Games

A large crowd watched Steward defeat Ashton 13 to 0 in the first game on Steward grounds. The return match at Ashton saw two costly errors and several mishaps lead to a 10 to 5 loss, with Steward scoring five runs in the fourth inning and Ashton unable to close the gap.

Trains Change Time On Northwestern Line

New time card takes effect Sunday with No 25 stopping to leave Chicago passengers. Train No 3 westbound departs at 1 26 am instead of 1 29. East bound No 20 now 11 23 instead of 10 45. Timings affect connections to Oregon Rockford and cut Lee Steward Shabbona routes.
