Illinois faces vote on $55 million soldiers bonus
Illinoisconsiders a statewide referendum on issuing bonds to fund a 50 cent daily bonus for World War I service members. The plan creates a $55,000,000 Soldiers Compensation fund and pays up to $300 per person plus survivor provisions, with bonds issued for twenty years and a state tax to cover interest and principal. Bakery Changes Hands In Illinois Sale
Frank Burbridge sold his bakery business to Glenn Ebert of Bowen Illinois near Quincy. Ebert plans to start the new bakery here about September first after recently selling his prior business. Burbridge moved from Peoria a year ago to build a fine trade but health concerns prompted the sale. Ebert is described as a young man with 14 years of experience pleasing those who know him. Ed F. Guffin of The County Times leased his Paw Paw paper for one year. Carl Anholz, a Princeton newspaper man, and Editor Guffin were noted for recent appointments as Paw Paw postmaster. George R. Charters and son Paul left for Luyers Minnesota and other points in the state.

Ford Sedan Stolen in Dixon Two Strangers Suspected
George H. Kersten reported his Ford sedan stolen in Dixon between two and four Tuesday afternoon. He had parked south of Miller music store and waited an hour before returning with the car missing. Chief VanBibber was notified after spotting two strangers on the Miller store railing earlier that afternoon. Mrs. John M. Cleary and daughter Madaline visited Mrs. Thomas McLean near Rochelle, aiding threshing dinner. McLean was formerly Irene Cleary.
