A 60 car shipment carrying 15 000 carpet rolls from Alexander Smith & Sons Yonkers New York to San Francisco bound via Omaha last week occupies over a half mile of track. Weighing 1 500 000 pounds and valued at 1 000 000 dollars the consignment required 7 800 workers eight days to complete.

Ashton Loses Doubleheader to Dixon in Weekend Games
Ashton dropped both games of a Saturday doubleheader to Dixon. In the first, South Dixon won 2 0 as Paddock fanned 14 while Dixon pitcher Keenan struck out five. Dixon had one hit. C and NW Cutting Water Service Across Its Lines
The Chicago and Northwestern Railway plans to cut water expenditures by reducing or stopping water service at many points on the Galena division. Lewis Klingebiel had his left leg amputated after a serious accident. he remains critical. Queen Esther circle to hold May meeting at the Methodist church with an elaborate program for guests. Freight changes and new engines stir local activity as W. H. Fee takes over express duties. Will Farrow returns from Montana to Ashton, planning further travel if health allows. Dr. Albert W. Price, longtime Mount Morris veterinarian, died by his own hand near the Lohafer farm.

Odd Fellows Lodge Installs New Unit In Amboy
Last evening Ashton Lodge No 977 staff joined Amboy to aid starting a new Odd Fellows lodge. Dix on lodge No 39 instituted the lodge in the afternoon. a banquet served from five to seven. Degrees were conferred by Dixon lodge and Paw Paw lodge with Ashton lodge completing the second degree and Polo lodge finalizing the third. About 75 candidates joined and over 200 Odd Fellows attended.

Machinery folds Gazette to speed up printing
Beginning this week the Gazette is folded with mechanical power. A newspaper folder installed in the press room cuts folding time from about four and a half hours for one person to about 45 minutes. Even when extra pages are added the folder produces a 12 page paper folded trimmed and pasted without extra time.

Harry L. Fordham of Compton was elected chairman of the Lee county board of supervisors in a tight 13 to 12 vote over W. J. Edwards of Amboy. The purchasing committee was abolished and duties moved to the contingent fund committee. Illinois auto license fees and speed limits were set by state law. Petrie and Griese shipped cattle from Franklin Grove. Mrs. W. E. Wright and three children visited her mother, Mrs. M. C. Hurd, after traveling from Oregon.
