About 135 members of the United Evangelical church and congregation gathered Tuesday evening to welcome their new pastor Rev. J. G. Eller and his family. W. C. Venerich, Mrs. Adam Eisenberg and H. M. Kersten led the reception committee as green and yellow festoons and bouquets brightened the room. Rev. A. E. Ulrich spoke for the community, and Eller urged cooperative, progressive Christian work as Paul Himmel Eller and Mrs Eller were introduced, with a ladies quartet and a hymn to follow.

Geography Exhibit Showcases World Goods at Local School
John Absher, head of the public school grammar department, has organized a geography exhibit in Lee county praised as the best in the area. The collection, housed in glass jars, features articles grown and manufactured worldwide including grains seeds oils fertilizers cement soap cocoa silk and more. The school board supports a permanent case, and Absher has invested time documenting and labeling each item for preservation. Patrons are urged to study the cabinet to gain practical insight into global products. Illinois Debt Smallest. The debt of Illinois per capita is one of lowest in the union according to a census bulletin. Illinois per capita debt is 39 cents while the average per capita state debt is 1.52. Iowa 3 cents Indiana 49 cents. The bulletin notes bonded indebtedness remained small and stable overall with special debt obligations rising from 1 165 000 in 1890 to 1 824 000 in 1890s. floating debt declined from 626 000 to 441 000 in the period.

Farmers State Bank Holds Seventh Annual Stockholders Meeting
The Farmers State Bank held its seventh annual stockholders meeting with strong turnout. The cashier’s report was read and adopted, and the board was re-elected: W C Venerich, J M Kilmer, W Sandrock, L J Sindlinger, and W G Krug. Death of Mrs Vaupel After Ill Health in Reynolds Township
Mrs Christina J Bowers Vaupel died April 8 at her Reynolds township home after two years of poor health. Born June 26, 1861, she was 52 years 9 months 12 days old. Survived by husband Jacob and six children Charles W Ella Winfield Clara. two sons Fred J and Clarence J predeceased. Also six sisters and two grandchildren. Funeral held April 10 at Reynolds Evangelical Church with Rev F Theiss. interment in Reynolds Cemetery. The Illinois Northern Utilities report coal stockpiles for potential strike, 2,000 tons at two Sterling steam plants and 1,000 tons at the hydro plant, enough to last until next August.
