Woodmen Meet at Paw Paw for County Convention

The Modern Woodmen of America held its triennial county convention at Paw Paw last Wednesday with 41 of 57 delegates present. Joseph Dauntlet of Dixon was elected chairman and George Hyde of Pawpaw secretary. Delegates to the Rock Island state convention May 6 were named with instructions to replace old officers and ensure a clean slate. The next county meeting will be in Steward in 1917.

Prof Jennie Bowman to headline Ada high school program

Prof Jennie Bowman dean of the College of Expression at Northern University Ada Ohio will present a varied program in the high school auditorium Friday evening April 11 under Seni will draw on Chautauqua popularity with high return dates. Music by the Ashton Glee Club. Admission 15 and 25 cents.

Odd Fellows Installation Marks New Officers in Ashton Lodge

In Ashton Lodge Nor 977 Independent Order of Odd Fellows the election for the current term chose Arthur C. Dugdale as Noble Grand and Erven J. Venerich as Vice Grand. Other officers include Frank S. Hart Past Grand W. F. Klingebiel as Treasurer and Jacob Wagner as Warden. A box social at Eisenberg school is planned for Friday April 17 with 15 cent admission.

Road Day urged to improve Illinois highways

Governor recommends observance of Road Day with practical work on roads across the state. Citizens urged to drag, grade, drain, haul, and place gravel or stone. Franklin Grove Sues Railroad Over Missing Crossing Gates

The village of Franklin Grove files suit in Lee County Circuit Court against Chicago & North Western for 5000 dollars. Attorneys Trusdell Smith Leech allege the railroad failed to install protection gates on Sycamore Elm and State streets.

Governor Dunne to Visit Ashton for Lincoln Highway Rally

Governor E F Dunne will lead a statewide good roads event arriving April 15 and passing Ashton en route to Sterling. Traffic boosters, wardens, lawmakers, and club leaders invite auto owners to join the Lincoln Highway ride, decorate cars, and join local Ashton Lincoln Highway Club members in promoting the Lincoln Highway.

Local suit over hardware gates erected by trustees claim

The filing alleges an August ordinance by M. N. Glenns hardware store board of trustees requires gates to be placed by November. Despite proper notification, no erection action has occurred. The suit was filed late Friday before circuit court term closing. Oscar Schade plans to plant three acres of asparagus this spring, about 25,000 roots, plus two and a half acres on the Thompson place and a half acre at his home.
