Arkansas Bill and Jesse Bell Battle a Bear in the West
A rugged hunter described as Arkansas Bill recalls a 1867 incident with Jessie Bell. They trapped near Green City, moved toward the Green and Wind rivers, and after a brutal bear attack Bill saved Bell with rifle shots and a knife. They built a rough carriage to haul Bell eight miles to Fort Bridger, then pressed on to medical aid along the Green River.
