High Diver Holden Attempted Death by Own Action
Arthur Holden, a noted high diver from Newark, attempted to kill himself with carbolic acid in a Park Hall cell after seeking Mrs. Gerner, with whom he had eloped last year. Six men held him as physicians worked to save him, and by midnight he improved enough to sleep. Holden, real name Otto C Holden, has long been famous for dangerous dives from bridges near New York and Newark and recently worked as Belmar bathing master and hotel bar tenderm. He faced 80 days jail for disorderly conduct, later reduced on a $20 fine.

A hotel at 304 First Avenue owned by Mrs Anella A Wilks was under attachment after manager W H Pring rented it in June. Constable E E Hammell served a writ of attachment but it was not delivered as Prine had left town. About fifty guests faced displacement amid heated exchanges with Magistrate J Wesley Croas. Prine’s personal goods were moved to Barnesville before an additional attachment by George W Farmer Coal Company was settled at the railroad depot.

Murderer Bullock Escapes From Freehold Jail
William Bullock, a convicted murderer of Constable Walsh, escaped from Freehold jail last night by digging a seven inch hole under his bed and tunneling to a lower vault. Authorities suspect outside help. Bullock had been scheduled for execution and trials spanned from January to July with multiple verdicts and a hung date.

Rear End Collision Delays Two Pennsylvania Trains
Two Pennsylvania Railroad specials leaving Jersey City near midnight collided at Branchport on the New York and Long Branch line. The rear train struck the first while waiting for a freight to clear. Fireman David Letts suffered severe head wounds and bruises and is expected to recover at Long Branch hospital. Engineer Thomas Lawler escaped with minor injuries. Wrecking crews cleared debris quickly and an investigation will determine cause and blame.

Kite buoy voyage proves wind works, Eddy reports
William A. Eddy launched a buoy tethered by three kites from Asbury Park with a red green and white rig. After an initial failure the rigging was corrected and the buoy sped northeast at about 20 mph, reaching 800 feet aloft before disappearing off Long Branch horizon.
