Forecasts for the San Francisco Bay Area call for fair weather through Thursday with night and morning low overcast. A February youth concert includes Mendelssohn Fingal's Cave Overture Schubert Fifth Symphony and a Young Artist Award work. The April finale showcases Mizart Symphonia Concertante for violin and viola played by Eziquiel Amador and Thomas Heimberg of the Fremont and San Francisco Symphonies. Fremont Unified School District reports 32288 students enrolled after the first week, up from 31961 a year earlier. Elementary enrollment fell 460 to 18711 while junior high gained 222 to 5058 and high school rose 475 to 5419. Kindergarten dropped 370 to 2570. Officials anticipate further gains with 10 housing units under construction and expect peak enrollment around January.

The San Leandro city council unanimously approved the master plan for a large family activity area around a 22 acre lagoon on the shoreline. It orders rapid progress on phase one near Nephone Fairway Drive as funding concerns arise from a proposed Nixon cutback. The city would receive $125,000 through an open space allowance from the HUD under a 0 percent funding formula.
