Potato Center Aims to End World Hunger With New Spuds
The International Potato Center near Lina Peru houses 7 researchers from 15 nations working on a hardier fast maturing potato rich in protein. They seek tropical resilience, 60 day maturation, and resistance to pests, aiming to close the global food gap amid widespread hunger and malnutrition. Researchers collect 13,000 potato strains stored in a clone bank to broaden genetic diversity and potential yields.
