Gunfighters of the West Challenged as Real Figures
In a new University of Oklahoma Press book historian Joseph G. Rosa argues the West’s gunmen were ordinary violent figures rather than Robin Hood legends. He says feuds in Texas Wyoming and Arizona created professional killers and six shoter justice was swift and final. The study cites Wild Bill Hickok and Bat Masterson as only partly fitting the myths. Across reports a Yellowstone Basin book by Mark H. Brown is reissued and California Redwood books showcase nature’s giants with extensive photography.
