Woman ordered to pay child support in ERA context
Sterling Heights postal clerk Mary Thibert was ordered by Macomb County Circuit Judge Hunter Stair to pay her ex husband Philip $15 a week for their four children after winning custody in a divorce two years earlier. The judge linked the decision to debates over the Equal Rights Amendment and suggested future shifts in support expectations. Thibert earns about $208 weekly while her ex earns roughly $283 as a foreman.

Off-shore oil laws recommended for tri-state coast
New York City Environmental Protection Administrator Robert A. Low urged a federal bill to govern offshore drilling along the New York New Jersey and Pennsylvania coastlines to deter a domestic oil cartel. He told the House Ad Hoc Committee on the Outer Continental Shelf that large tracts are held by a few multinationals and independents provide little output, backing exploratory drilling and a leasing program. Preliminary studies hint at 4.6 billion barrels of oil and 146 trillion cubic feet of gas in the Baltimore Canyon Trough offshore. In Tel Aviv two men were arrested near Ben Gurion Airport with explosives after being spotted at a roadblock by a policewoman.
