Salem lawyers denied stay for Mississippi escapee
Mark Wheeler and David Blost of Salem Ore fought 18 months to block the return of William Thomas Stewart a 34 year old convict from Parchman Miss. He escaped three times and surrendered in Oregon on Aug 18 1969. In the 9th U S Circuit Court of Appeals their writs were denied.

Curfew for U.S. personnel after Turkish kidnapping
American authorities imposed a midnight curfew for thousands of U.S. personnel in Turkey after the abduction of Airman James Ray Finley near Ankara. Tri City family program funded with federal grant
The Southern Alameda County Economic Opportunity Agency SACEOA has received a $100,000 grant from the Federal Office of Economic Opportunity to finance a family planning program in the Tri City area. Funds will run 12 months to operate two clinics in Union City and Newark offering medical and instructional information on birth control. The Union City center is at 820 E Street while the Newark clinic will be on Thornton Avenue in a leased facility under negotiation.
