California Junior College Association eyeing AAU tourney

SAN FRANCISCO UPD The California Junior College Association will enter the national AAU basketball tournament March 28 in an effort to qualify athletes for the 1972 Olympic team. About eight players will be chosen from the AAU event in London Kentucky to compete in the Olympic Trials at the Air Force Academy June 10-24. The JCIA was denied direct representation to the trials, as the US Olympic Committee granted one JC berth to NJCAA this year. Dr. Lloyd Messersmith, executive director, notes the move aims to avoid denying athletes access in an Olympic year. The AAU tourney gathers teams from junior colleges, senior colleges, Armed Forces, and other leagues to form a US squad for the Soviet Union event.
