Huge government balloon school camp rises over Arcadia race track with rapid construction. Laborers dig trenches, cement stacks grow into sheds, and new workshops replace old stables as administration and bath house buildings take shape amid a busy, expanding camp.
Arcadia community pledges for War Savings Stamps reach six thousand nine hundred dollars, with Anita M Baldwin and George B Oberly each pledging one thousand dollars. A wartime appeal quotes wartime tragedy to spur further donations during the third Liberty Loan drive.
Seven aeroplanes from Rockwell Field San Diego will perform loops spirals and dives at Arcadia July Fourth during a two hour show from 10 to 12. Parachute jumps will accompany balloon stunts and the afternoon will feature Independence Day leave for enlisted men.

Old H C L warnings claim barber costs rise and Sunday closures start July 1. Monrovia report notes price hikes for shaves and cuts and no open shops on Sundays. Arcadia visitor Mrs J H Schwarz and Marshall Treen keep Santa Anita avenue traffic moving near the aviation camp.
In Arcadia a restricted zone around a balloon school prompts questions on how to move alien enemies living nearby. City marshal F W Treen wonders how to escort them safely, as several alien enemy individuals are listed at the Arcadia post office per government orders.

A board of city trustees meets tonight to wrap up unfinished business for the fiscal year ending Monday. Several important matters are on the agenda.
F A McCarl approves on site plans for a new YMCA building at the balloon school grounds. H Halliday travels to San Diego to meet architects as construction is eyed to begin next week. The camp secretary Charles W Stewart cites a cost near 6000 dollars and calls the facility among the most modern in the United States.
The semi annual melon cutting by Monrovia banks will occur next Monday with about 25 250 dollars distributed to depositors and stockholders. Depositors receive 15 500 dollars and stockholders 5 000 dollars. A similar amount was paid January 1 and a comparable sum will be paid next January. Third Liberty Loan interest payments due July 18 will enable many to cover their installments.
More than 400 men from the Arcadia balloon station rode free Pasadena Board of Trade buses to the Soldiers and Sailors club at the Chamber of Commerce building for weekend events. The service ran to fetch and return the men to camp at midnight, sparking positive reception among attendees. Secretary John H. Pearman visited Los Angeles to discuss direct car service from the camp with Pacific Electric officials, as previously promised.

At the First Presbyterian Church Arcadia forty boys from the camp will attend the morning service on July 6 and then go for lunch. Rev. M. M. Noacker invites volunteers to join in the charity effort with special music planned. The mid-summer communion is moved to July 13 at 11 a.m. with preparatory services on Friday July 11 at 8 p.m.
The First Presbyterian Sunday school plans its annual picnic on a Wednesday in July. Arrangements will provide transport for children by auto or truck. Location to be announced later. Also noted is street tree trimming on First street and reports of family visits in Arcadia.
