Palms Donated for City Park Beautification Project

War Savings Stamp Drive Planned After Red Cross Push
Campaign to sell 25000 in War Savings Stamps runs for the rest of 1918 with Frank Cook in general charge. City divided into districts as before and every person to be approached. A meeting at Charles W. Stewarts home tonight outlines the plan. The city is urged to meet the challenge as it did for Red Cross funds.

Entertainer Bill Stinger Delights Arcadia Church Audience
On Friday evening June 14 R. H. Mouse known as Bill Stinger performed at the church before a large appreciative crowd. Miss Laser of Los Angeles and Miss Ostrander of Arcadia provided fine musical numbers. Readings and impersonations by Bill were warmly received, followed by a social in the Manse with punch coffee and cookies served by the Ladies Aid.

Arcadia Moves Into New City Hall Today
Arcadia’s new city hall, nearly finished, will be occupied today as books records and accounts are transferred this afternoon and Monday business begins in the new building. Formal dedication is set for July Fourth with the Cooperative Arcadian Club and Board of Trade invited to meetings there and the Red Cross using the fire engine room until firefighting equipment is obtained.

New Macadam Road Planned From Santa Anita to P. E. Tracks
A 24 foot oil macadam road will be built from Santa Anita avenue on Pallingleaf to the P. E. tracks near the balloon school ground. City Engineer Gier lich prepared plans last week and bidding will be advertised by the city clerk. The road will handle heavy hauling and must be substantial.

New Recreation Center Started Near Balloon School
W H Taylor trustee member announced immediate construction of an ice cream parlor theater and oil filling station near the balloon school entrance. Plans show Spanish design with about 10000 dollars likely spent. The project forms part of a broader recreational center with a large clubhouse and canteen to serve soldiers and the public.

Pacific Electric Proposes Higher Passenger Tariffs
The Pacific Electric Railway seeks new tariffs with hearings set for June 20 in Los Angeles. W. S. S. Newhall named janitor of the new city hall by the board of city trustees at Wednesday night session. Salary set at 75 dollars per month. he started work Thursday amid four applications for the post. Trustees will hire a man for day and night duties in the building and yard. Treen Granted Salary Increase by City Trustees

Landry, Arcadia Native, Former Merchant, Dies in LA
Louis A. Landry died in Los Angeles on Tuesday June 18 at age 48 after months of ill health. He lived in Arcadia twelve years, served as night marshal two years, then ran a general store for over eight years. Funeral in Los Angeles with burial at Calvary cemetery. Survived by wife, son Harry, three brothers and a sister. Appointment of S J Robey as deputy city marshal reported with pay set at fifty cents an hour.
