Prompt calls demand the resignation of Colonel Higdon and allied officers of the Third Regiment Alabama National Guard. The move aims to trigger mass resignations across the unit and related officials.
An informal meeting of the Second Battalion officers from Anniston Oxford Talladega and Gadsden discussed pressuring Colonel Higdon to resign and an ensuing election. The lineup favored Lt Col McConnell of Talladega for colonel Major Bankhead for lieutenant colonel and Capt Ledbetter of Birmingham for major.
Montgomery reports the anti boycotting measure passed both houses by 60 to 32 after a heated session, marking one of the session’s fiercest battles.
The National Metal Trades Association pushes a 10 percent wage reduction for machinists nationwide, threatening 100000 workers. More than three thousand dollars has been subscribed to fund a ten thousand dollar Anniston furniture factory. Subscriptions run toward a five year loan at six percent to a corporation to be organized, secured by a first mortgage on the factory property. Payments are split across October 1, December 1, and January 1, 1994.
The city council approved a new anti spitting ordinance requiring all expectorations to occur only in the streets after October 15 under penalty of law. The measure aims to curb public spitting.
At the sovereign grand lodge I O O F session in Baltimore the finance committee backed a plan to raise one million dollars for a memorial temple but advised keeping the sovereign grand lodge name separate. It recommends Washington lodge No 1 of Baltimore manage subscriptions from other jurisdictions. The committee's report was to be voted on next day. The afternoon saw leaders visit Thomas Wildey’s grave and place flowers.
General Joseph Wheeler continues his devoted attentions to Mrs. George W. Childs at Richfield Springs. The pair are seen dining and touring together amid widespread talk that a marriage may be imminent, delayed only by the opposition of the Misses Wheeler.
