The Brick Masons International Union lodge held a Labor Day barbecue in the grove near Duke's brickyard in West End. Members enjoyed sun protection from trees and cool mountain breezes, with a superb noon repast prepared by J. L. Murphy. Short speeches by J. T. Harden F M House W G Collier Smith Tramell L G Jones L G Daniel and W M McGaff followed the meal, leaving attendees grateful and with memories of the day.

Edwardsville murder: Tillie Carson convicted of first degree murder
Tillie Carson, alleged in the mob that killed James P. Price on August 16, was found guilty of murder in the first degree and sentenced to life in the penitentiary. Gala Day for Organized Labor in Anniston
Labor Day celebrations in Anniston featured a holiday closure of businesses and a grove program after a subdued parade. Mayor Henderson was absent due to illness. Charles C. Echard delivered the opening address, with Kline and Lamar also speaking. A barbecue was well received, and a late baseball game saw the Elks lose 11 to 10 to the Clerks, highlighted by Stradley’s running catch.

Mules and Horses Burn in Barn Fire Near Oxford Lake
A large barn belonging to Mrs. Draper below Oxford near Oxford Lake park burned last night about seven o clock. Two fine mules and a horse perished in the flames and the barn and contents were destroyed, causing a heavy loss.
Arbacoochee Mines Sold
The Anniston Gold Mining Company sold its Arbacoochee district property to a well capitalized buyer. New machinery will be patin and the mines will be operated extensively. Gold exists in paying quantities in that area, but the previous company was not positioned to develop it properly.

Clerk of Talladega City Court Named in Huey Vacancy
Marion Sims of the Talladega bar was appointed clerk to fill the James A. Huey vacancy after Huey disappeared in Anniston while buying a ticket to New Orleans. Huey left a few papers with a storekeeper and had about $60. Authorities noted no known financial trouble and suspected possible mental imbalance.
