Buffalo reports show at 3 p m President McKinley remained unchanged from morning with pulse 136 temperature 102 and respiration 28. Doctors fear peritonitis within sixty hours but say no pain except deep breaths. Mrs McKinley received Senator Lode at noon as cabinet members gathered for possible action. X rays sought the second bullet near the spine. surgery awaited if located.
Buffalo on September 7 reports grow daily concern over President McKinley after yesterday's shooting at the exposition grounds. Physicians warn serious complications may follow and blood poisoning fears loom. Secretaries Wilson and Knox have hurried to be near the President as martial law is effectively declared in the city.
The Eagle reporter Fred Huttman recounts confidential statements by Antonia Maggio of the Andrews opera company that President McKinley would be assassinated before October by an anarchist circle with Rome headquarters. Maggio said the plan involved Rome linked operatives and extended to monarchs, with earlier chatter about the emperor of Germany.
Burra o New York September 7 The assault on the President occurred after the organ recital at the Temple of Music as crowds watched. A plainclothes man masked by a bandage reached two feet from the President and fired. McKinley received a bullet in the right breast and another in the abdomen. he was placed on an operating table and later moved to the President Mikura’s home after initial treatment at the exposition hospital.
New York reports clearing house committees met this morning and concluded banks are handling the situation well. Officials do not believe the President's death will trigger a financial panic.
Three men died when a Seaboard Air Line freight train collided with an open switch at Frisbee station near Atlanta. Engineer W. A. Holbrooks fireman C. W. Hardridge and brakeman Henry Robinson were killed. Six cars wrecked and the engine damaged as the train failed to stop at the open switch, fate uncertain whether careless or deliberate act.
