President Roosevelt, greeted by a crowded Baltimore and Ohio station crowd, starts a brief southern swing with Wheeling, Chattanooga, Knoxville, and Asheville on the itinerary. In Mercer county at Bethany church Richard League tossed the bride’s two brothers from a church window during a protracted meeting. Birmingham report says Col T G Bush returned from the east and, when asked about a GOP bid for governor, stated he would not be induced to run and that he is a Democrat who would support Governor Jelks. Bush has aligned with the Democratic gold standard faction but backed regular Democratic candidates in state elections.

In Tayabas province Luzon Rios a fanatical irrec oncilable native leader attacked Laguimanoc Sept 5 at head of thirty riflemen and 150 bolo men. The band killed two women and a girl and wounded others. A native constabulary detachment routed the bandits and rounded up 700 men as suspects. One lieutenant said Rios is a God descendant and untouchable. Four detachments pursue the main group and a mountain stronghold was captured.
Washington dispatch reports Representative James M. Griggs predicts a Democratic majority in the next House. He cites encouraging reports from Wisconsin Michigan Illinois Ohio Indiana and Minnesota and notes assurances from Senator Gorman former Governor Hill and Lewis Nixon among Democratic leaders.
The Calhoun County Biotia Association formed a new auxiliary in Jacksonville and adjourned to meet at Cane Creek in October 1903. It appointed a five member committee led by Rev. W. R. Ivey to promote Sunday schools, missionary contributions, and county wide missionary work with a $5353 fund.
