A catastrophic blaze at the old chamber of commerce in Kansas City overnight left over 25 dead and about 50 others seriously injured. Firefighters battled flames as occupants fled to the roof, many jumping or trapped by collapsing walls. 13 remain unaccounted for and a long casualty list includes John Sparks and several others with burns and broken limbs.

The census bureau reports 4,910,290 bales ginned from 1906 crops through October 18, versus 4,990,566 bales for 1905 to the same date. Active ginners numbered 26,237, compared with 26,577 last year.
In Huntsville on October 25 the West Huntsville cotton mill becomes the only Southern mill using natural gas for fuel for a few weeks. Gas is supplied by well No 1 of the New York Alabama Oil Company a quarter mile away and burners have been installed under boilers. The experiment has been very satisfactory and Rowe Knitting Company plans to switch to gas fuel.
Captain Sam Smith learns of the death of his brother D. C. Smith of Randolph County and the illness of his brother's daughter in Graham Alabama. D. C. Smith was a successful farmer and respected citizen, youngest brother in a large family now down to two. Captain Smith and a Randolph County sister are the remaining siblings. Friends offer sympathy in the bereavement.
Hartford delegates arrive as trains bring attendees for the annual National Woman's Christian Temperance Union convention set to begin sessions the next day in Hartford Connecticut with nationwide representatives attending.
The Hendrick-Carter union revival in the Auditorium ends tonight with a grand hand shake and hallelujah time. About 125 conversions occurred at a total cost around $490, including song books and preachers' pay. The series drew large crowds daily with services for all ages and groups and a final sermon on The Church by Mr. Hendrick.
The Louisville and Nashville railroad bought Talladega property worth 25 000 dollars to build new freight and passenger depots and expand terminal facilities. Rev Isaiah Holmes, Alabama’s oldest Baptist minister, died near Sylacanga aged 48. Captain William W Warren, son of Rev Joshua Warren, returns home after seven years in the Philippines. his brother Marion died there on July 1 from an accidental pistol shot. William plans to return to the islands next spring.

A note claimed she was carried away by a man who loved her and would marry her. She recalls being drugged with chloroform and hidden in a dark room before escaping.
