At a city council meeting ordinances granting 30 year franchises to two telephone firms were introduced. George F. Wilson resigned from the Second ward seat and J A Wallis was elected to fill the term. The council adjourned after routine business.
An old advertisement touts Foley's Honey and Tar as an effective throat and lung remedy for coughs and colds. Miller Drug Co. endorses the product as a quick cure option without listing side effects.
J. F. Van Rensselaer, general agent in Atlanta Georgia invites inquiries for economical travel to California and the northwest using Union Pacific and Southern Pacific routes.
The Anniston Rifles and Calhoun Rifles returned from Birmingham after taking part in the state fair opening ceremonies and price drills. Calhoun Rifles placed fourth in the prize drill. Anniston did not enter. The Oxford company won 50 for the largest parade turnout.
Hon J A W Smith Republican candidate for governor will speak here on Wednesday the 29th instant. He will be accompanied by Judge Whatley of Clay County and son Hugh McElderry of Talladega who will also discuss the issues of the day. In Wilkes-Barre in October the restart of mining across the anthracite region encountered water and accumulated gas hazards. Dangerous roofs threatened to collapse and entomb workers, while mine superintendents declined to alter operations.
In Arrg Minnesota on October 24 a father killed his daughter with a butcher knife because she was in love with and wished to marry the son of his enemy from Glen four miles away. The romance had continued for months despite a threat from the father.

Hennessy LeRoyle, actor and leading man, died last night in VacavitLe California from erysipelas. He owned a stake in the company and starred in current productions.
Word comes from Anniston of the death in Christoval Texas yesterday at 5 40 am of Claude H Robinson a brother of Mesara T L and W A Robinson He had spent months in Texas for health reasons and had recently returned to Anniston before again traveling there He was a member of the Robinson Brothers cotton firm until last August and his passing brings sorrow to many friends with funeral plans not yet fixed but likely to be held in Anniston
