Kentucky claims deal is harmful

The Interstate Commerce Commission released the Kentucky railroad commission’s complaint against several railroads including the Atlantic Coast Line, Louisville and Nashville, Southern Railway in Kentucky and Indiana, Cincinnati New Orleans and Texas Pacific, Cincinnati Southern, and Chicago Indianapolis Louisville. The document seeks a formal investigation, contract examination, subpoenas, and an inquiry into business practices to determine if an unlawful combination exists and how earnings are divided or carved among the lines.

Snow Perkins Bound Over in Robbery Case

Snow Perkins, a Black man accused of stealing 810 from Mrs Crook, was bound over in police court in the sum of 200 to await grand jury action. Unable to post bond, he was jailed. He implicated eight to ten other Black men who faced gaming charges, most of whom were acquitted. Perkins was represented by T. N. Harris, the first Black lawyer to practice locally, who came from Tuskegee, while Ross Blackmon led the others.

Selma reports Captain J W Davidson longtime Southern railway conductor and prominent citizen shot himself. After a health decline he returned from Virginia to Selma, dined, then went to bathe. a pistol shot echoed as his son found him dead in the hall. Davidson was well known and widely liked in Anniston and beyond.

Steamer Powhatan Goes Ashore in Dense Fog

The steamer Powhatan of the Merchants and Miners Transportation company ran aground in the Patapsco River near Baltimore Maryland during a dense morning fog. Captain Dizer commanded the vessel destined for Baltimore from Providence. The crew expected to remove cargo before the ship could be refloated.

Three masked highwaymen halted a Tillamook stage five miles from Yamhill Oregon last night. They forced passengers to exit and lined them up by the roadside before making off with about $500 in valuables.

Mob Burns Black Suspect After Jail Break In Ferrat Crry

Charles Young a Black man accused of murdering Mrs Ed Lewis was seized from the county jail by a mob of hundreds. They broke in using sledgehammers, bound him, and burned him about a half mile east of town. Sheriff W E Williams failed to stop the raid though he arranged for a trial with Judge Hutton.
