In Louisville on October 15 a large Union Veterans' Union vote rejected a resolution disavowing intention to wound southern feelings by singing We’ll Hang Jeff Davis On a Sour Apple Tree at a public reception. Delegates argued the incident was by individuals, not an official stance.
Dr. J H Moore formerly of this city now based in Birmingham is back from an extended foreign tour. He visited England Scotland France the Holy Land and other points of interest sailing from New York June 1 and returning via Port Said Isle of Crete Naples Pompeii Rome Gibraltar Spain Portugal Boston New York Washington and Anniston. He collected curios coins and artifacts from Jerusalem including a cedarwood cane from Lebanon and camel inkstands with native handwork.
W H Brown of Leesville, long thought near death, survived thanks to King’s New Discovery for Consumption. Mobile Alabama Oct 15 Thomas J Dover a twenty year prisoner for murder for hire was granted a thirty day parole by Governor Jelks to visit a dying child in Mobile He planned to thank the governor upon return to Montgomery the child at Providence is recovering Dover worked as a blacksmith at the Alabama Iron Works and spent much time with the child An effort is under way to obtain a pardon.
The Anniston Stock Exchange in Alabama will close Saturday after two months of operation in the hotel building. The firm cites no new business and will wind down contracts on hand. Mr E D Crawford, manager, will return to Atlanta.
The faculty recital at Noble Street theater featured Prof Edwin G. White director, soprano Miss Lillian Bell, violinist Miss Alice Ballard, reader Miss Judson Kilpatrick, with portions titled My Heart at Thy Sweet Voice and Legende Op 17 Wieniawski. Performances included Asphodel, Ballard’s Concerto de Perot, and Caprice Wallenbaup among others.

Work has commenced on the Anniston National Bank building. The lower floor will be redesigned to provide more commodious and handsome quarters, making the bank one of the handsomest and best appointed in the area.
The funeral of Mrs. J. F. Steele was held from the residence at 3 o'clock with Rev J H Foster Jr presiding. Burial followed in Hilgemont cemetery. She died suddenly yesterday of heart failure leaving a husband and other relatives.
